The Race for CD3: Dwayne Romero, Democrat for Congress

The Guy That's Been Elected to Every Office in the Area joins us to talk about his many careers, his family's history of service, and why he jumped into the race so late, and still got on the ballot

NOTE: This episode was recorded back on April 3rd. Apologies to the Romero for Congress team for taking so long to post this one, but, you know, we’re volunteers.

This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, our seemingly never-ending quest to interview every Democrat in a competitive primary for an important election in Colorado in 2026 has netted us yet another Friend of the Pod - Dwayne Romero who is running against another new Friend of the Pod, Alex Kelloff for the right to take on The Bread Sandwich himself, Jeff Hurd in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional district this November!

Dwayne is a combat veteran, small business owner, and Democratic candidate for Colorado’s Third Congressional District. Raised on food stamps by a single mom, Dwayne went on to play baseball at West Point, serve seven years in the Army Corps of Engineers — earning a Bronze Star during the first Gulf War and graduating from Army Ranger School — before putting down roots in Colorado, where he and his wife Margaret have lived for more than 35 years. He served in Governor Hickenlooper’s Cabinet as Director of Economic Development, has held numerous local elected offices including city council and school board, and today employs 120 Coloradans through his property management company on the Western Slope.
